Indians introduced activated carbon filtration

It was mentioned that ancient Indians used activated carbon for water purification. they prepared activated charcoal from coconut shells, tamarind shells etc. Recently it was re-searched that activated charcoal from tamarind shells was used for removal of fluoride and +6 chromium. I hope it was already known to our great ancient Indians.
